(How-to) Framework 3.5 won’t install on Windows 8

For some reason, many people have problems installing/enabling Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 using the add remove windows features. Here’s how you easily do it the code style.

What you’ll need is:

  • Powershell (or Command prompt)
  • Windows 8 / 8.1
  • ISO, USB or any media containing any version of Windows 8 installation

Powershell

In windows 8, start up the “Powershell” console.
(This should work from the regular command prompt as well. Be sure to run this as “Administrator”.)

Run the following code int the terminal:

dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:d:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

Be sure to check which drive letter the installation media is at, and change the “/Source:**driveletter**:\sources\sxs” to the one you have on your computer. The “d” was only an example.

Framwork 3.5 should now be installed.
The best part by doing it this way is that you do not need to reboot your computer after the installation.
Had this been installed using the “Add / remove Windows feature” a reboot had to take place to install the updgrade
