One of Norway’s largest phone companies messes up big time in their new TV commercial…

The commercial starts off by showing the male main character taking a picture of him self with a Samsung Galaxy S2 in a mirror then the commentator says this is him getting the first text from the female main character and they show his screen with the message conversation and it’s clearly an iPhone… Someone must not know the difference between Android and iOS even tho they sell both….

CyanogenMod implement they’re own updater

The team behind the custom Android rom called CyanogenMod have just added they’re own updates feature to the newest updates of the M version (sort of like beta versions) of the Android 4.1 based CM10. We have been using this mod on a Galaxy S2 for a few months and it works like a charm… The new updater makes it even better

image

It’s located in the “About Phone” menu like OEM update features and you can select what versions you want notifications about and also the time intervals for checking for updates. If there is a update it sorts them below and you can choose to download the one you want, when it’s done you click install and the phone reboots, installs and restarts to the OS…. We have tested it and it works like a OEM update… Perfect

Earlier we mentioned that Clockworks had released a experimental rom for the Galaxy S2 and we have used this ever since. It has been good and have worked great but now the guys at CyanogenMod have released a M version of a CM10 rom this is the stage before a Nightly release. We have installed it and love it to bits. If you have a rooted phone and KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING you can download it from here but if you don’t we recommend you either don’t or start reading at the CyanogenMod site.

The new version has a feature that allows you to Quick reply to new messages or call back the sender from the drop down status bars

How to solve slow Facebook app after upgrading (Android)

Have you upgraded to the new facebook application, but regret doing it because it runs really really slow? This is due to lack of phone resources, and the solution is easy.

Lets downgrade..

This solution will put the facebook app back to it’s previous state. Just follow these simple steps and you back to the way it was before you upgraded.

  1. Uninstall the current facebook application that you have installed on your smart phone.
  2. Start your QR code scanner
  3. Scan the code  below, and install the application.

A tip should your phone reject the installation is to go into the phones application settings and turn on “Allow Unknown sources”. This allows you to install applications outside of the Android Market/Play Store.

Symantec found malicious applications in Android Market

After scanning the Android Market, Symantec found multiple publisher ID’s that had been publishing applications with a malicious code in it. The crafted code is a modification of the  code “Android.Tonclank” which is defined as a trojan horse that steals information stored on the device. It may also open back-doors used by others to be able to execute commands through your phone.

Annoying advertisement on your smart phone

Are you one of the lucky one’s that win an iPad2 every week? Well we suddenly were.. If it had been real,  apple would probably have struggled with the production, an we could have opened our own iPad2 store. If this sounds familiar to you we hope you understand that this is all just fake ads that hope you will click them. They appear in the smart phones notification bar and and will not go away until you click them. We show you how to kill them for good!

Bring out the virtual guns!

Scan to download

This is done in 4 simple steps.

  1. Go to the market and look for AirPush Detector or scan the QR code
  2. Install the application
  3. Start the newly installed application.
  4. Uninstall the listed application(s) that the scanner detects.

You should now be free of annoying advertisement notifications.

The applications that contains this type of advertisement, isn’t necessary evil. They won’t harm the phone like worms, Trojans, and viruses do , but they do use some resources to stay alive. The reason that some of the apps comes with this type of advertisement is because the developer of the app gets more value per click than with just a simple advertise banner inside the app. The way this is being done is with the use of a system called AirPush.

Start your Android phone as an OS on your computer

How to start your android phone’s operating system on your computer with a nice graphical touch? It’s very easy and we’ll tell you how!

 AirDroid Logo

The Preparations

The first thing you need to do is to head over to the android market and download the free application called “AirDroid”. This application will stream and beautify what you would normally see on your android phone. Once installed, start it and swipe to the right side. There you will find the settings. To prevent other to interfere with your session, we suggests that you set the password control to “ON” and set a personal password. The next you should do (this might only be handy for advanced users) is to set a custom port. This will prevent the session to get in conflict with for instance Torrents, or other applications roaming around on the network that requires specific ports.

And this is just about it.. You should now be ready to start.

What’s Next..??

Just turn on your phones WIFI and wait for the signal bars in the application to turn green. Once they are green you should see a “Start” button appear. Hit it..!

Now, walk over to your computer and open a web browser. Type in your android phone’s IP address and port and the login screen should appear. What you should write in the web browser’s address field is shown on the AirDroid application after pressing theSettings © Nordic Vikings.net “Start” button. The address should look something like: “http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:<Port number>”. In our place the this is how it looks: “http://192.168.10.170:8888″. Just remember that this is based on the network router settings and the pre-set port number.

When you now see the login portal we suggest that you hit the F11 button on your keyboard. This will put the web browser in a full screen view. Now you may log on.

Which features do I have?

Once inside, you may:

  • open text messages
  • send and receive SMS
  • see/edit the call log
  • browse or edit the phone book
  • install/uninstall apps
  • see the phones status like CPU/RAM/Battery/disk space
  • browse the SD card using a file explorer
  • download/upload from the SD card
  • Kill running apps
  • And much more…

Things that we are not able to do, is to start applications, and call other people using a headset or like other telephone applications like Skype. But hopefully this will come in later versions as this is a growing project..

Nordic Vikings will follow this application and keep you updated as they roll out.
